2015 Chester County Town Tours and Village Walks

Chester County has announced the schedule for the 2015 Town Tours and Village Walks series. Town Tours and Village Walks is a series of free summer strolls through historic neighborhoods, hamlets, villages and sites. Tours will be held weekly on Thursday evenings from June 11 through August 20.

This year’s series will highlight the homes, meetinghouses and resting places of the brave men and women who “recognized the Equal Brotherhood of the Human Family” before and after the Civil War. There will also be special programs featuring a historic struggle for equal opportunity, underground railroad tours and an underground railroad scholars symposium.

2015 Honeybee Swarm Capture List

If you find a swarm of honeybees and would like it removed, members of the Chester County Beekeepers Association (CCBA) are willing to help, usually at no cost. Time is of the essence so click on the link below now! Once the swarm enters its new home, removal of the honeybees is much more difficult and may involve opening the wall of a house to get to the bee colony.

PennDOT’s Accelerated Pavement Repairs

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will be using general contractors to supplement state maintenance crews to repair pavement damage on state highways in the Philadelphia region. PennDOT state crews have placed 5,600 tons of patching material on state roads in the region since December 1, 2014, including 3,900 tons since March 9, 2015.

Citizens can report potholes on state highways by calling 1-800-FIX-ROAD (1-800-349-7623) or visiting www.dot.state.pa.us and clicking on “Submit Feedback.” Citizens should be as specific as possible when providing pothole locations or other maintenance concerns. For state routes, include the county, municipality, street name and route number, or the state route (SR) number that can be found on small black and white signs posted along state roadways. Also provide a description of any familiar landmarks that will help PennDOT locate the problem area.

National Groundwater Awareness Week

In honor of National Groundwater Awareness Week, the Penn State Extension will be hosting a special webinar on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 from 12:00-1:00pm entitled “Pennsylvania Groundwater – Individual Actions to Protect This Valuable Resource.” The Penn State Extension also hosts monthly webinars relating to water resource issues usually on the last Wednesday of the month.

2014 Earned Income Tax Returns

Your 2014 local earned income tax return and instructions were recently mailed out. Earned income tax returns for 2014 are due on April 15, 2015.

Your earned income tax return can be filed online at KeystoneCollects.com if you live and work in Pennsylvania. Please note that the forms changed this year. If you will be claiming an out-of-state tax credit or if you work in Philadelphia, you may be eligible for a local earned income tax credit up to the amount you owe to South Coventry Township. The worksheet on the back of the form will help you calculate your out-of-state tax credit (attach a copy of your out-of-state filing).
