Chester County Warns Residents of Excessive Heat
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning in effect from Monday, July 15, 2013 through Saturday, July 20, 2013. Residents are reminded that that extreme heat can pose a challenge to the body’s temperature control system. If the body does not cool properly, there is potential for heat-related illness, which can take different forms, ranging from general fatigue to muscular cramping to life-threatening heat stroke.
The Chester County Department of Aging has fans available for County residents age 60 and older, who qualify, to help cope with the excessive heat. If a fan is needed because no other means of cooling a living area is available, call 610-344-6350. Rover Community Transportation will be providing additional transportation services for individuals age 65 or over to help seniors reach public places that are air conditioned such as libraries, movie theaters or shopping malls. To contact Rover transportation dispatch, call 484-696-3854 (after 5:30 p.m. press 3 to be connected to dispatch).

Share the Road Campaign
On Friday, May 10, 2013 the Chester County Commissioners signed a proclamation declaring May to be Bike Month in Chester County. The Chester County Cycling Coalition has launched the Share the Road Campaign in Chester County. It is important for all motorists and bicyclists to be educated on how to share the road to help reduce injuries and fatalities in the County.
Bicycles are legal vehicles in Pennsylvania and are subject to the same rules as cars. When passing a bike, motorists are required by law to give at least four feet of space. Check out the links below for more information on how to safely share the road, educational materials and on-road bicycling classes:
What Not to Flush
What happens to “flushable” wipes when you flush them? Does kitty litter break down when it goes down the drain? What’s the difference between flushing toilet paper and facial tissue? Do feminine hygiene products break down?
There are many problems and issues that can be caused by flushing the wrongs things down your plumbing. Not only can they cause malfunctions in on-lot septic systems and clogs in your pipes but they can also cause major breakdowns at treatment plants for community or cluster wasterwater systems.

Save the Swarm
If you find a swarm of honeybees on your turf and don’t want it there, members of the Chester County Beekeepers Association (CCBA) are willing to remove the swarm.
Honeybees are a valuable part of nature because they pollinate crops, produce honey, beeswax, pollen and their stings are widely accepted as an aid in the treatment of arthritis. So, as you observe them swarming, contemplate this marvelous phenomenon and call a beekeeper to remove the swarm and put it to beneficial use.
