The Spotted Lanternfly is an invasive species that was first found in Berks County, PA in 2014 and, to date, has been identified in six counties in Pennsylvania. As the area impacted by the Spotted Lanternfly increases so do questions regarding this insect and how to remove it. Free KI Distribution

The Chester County Health Department will be distributing free potassium iodide (KI) tablets for people who live within a 10-mile radius of Limerick Nuclear Power Plant on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 2:00PM to 7:00PM at the Kimberton Fire Hall located at 2276 Kimberton Road, Phoenixville, PA.

KI tablets contain a stable iodine that can help protect your thyroid from radioactive iodine during a radiological emergency. KI tablets should only be taken when directed by public health officials or emergency management officials. Exercise Caution During Excessive Heat

Residents are reminded to be cautious during times of extreme heat. Extreme heat can pose a challenge to the body’s temperature control system. If the body does not cool properly, there is potential for heat-related illness. Heat-related illness can take different forms, ranging from general fatigue to muscular cramping to life-threatening heat stroke.

This park promotion contest is a way to encourage residents to be active and learn more about the parks in our area. South Coventry Township is accepting bids until Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 3:00PM for the following items: 1) Homelite 5500watt 11HP generator 2) Kubota 2150 4×4 Tractor with Loader and 5’ Woods Mower 3) 1950’s Restored Massey Harris 16 Pacer Tractor 4) MoHawk 2 Post Lift Model TP-15.

Awarding of the bids will be held at a public meeting of the Board of Supervisors on June 15, 2017 at 7:30PM at the South Coventry Township Office, 1371 New Philadelphia Road, Pottstown PA. The Chester County Agricultural Development Council has released the 2017 Guide to Local Farm Products in Chester County. The Guide provides a map and listing of farms, CSAs, retail outlets and farmer’s markets in Chester County as well as a farm product calendar and a variety of interesting articles.

Fourth Annual Elder Justice Day

The fourth annual Elder Justice Day will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 9:00am to 1:30pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church located at 10 West Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382. Elder Justice Day is an education opportunity for older adults to reduce their risk of victimization. Topics this year include choosing a power of attorney, protecting yourself against computer fraud and the Elder Abuse Project. The event will include a continental breakfast and free catered lunch.

License Your Dog

All dogs three months or older must be licensed by January 1 of each year. Violators can be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation, plus court costs. An annual license is $8.50 and a lifetime license is $51.50. If the animal is spayed or neutered, the annual fee is $6.50 and lifetime is $31.50. Discounts are available to older adults and people with disabilities.

If your dog is lost, a license helps animal control and shelters identify your dog and return him safely.  Remember, the cost of a license is much less than the fine you could face if you fail to license your dog.

Dog licenses are available from the Chester County Treasurer and other licensing agents.

2017 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events

The 2017 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in South Coventry Township will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Owen J. Roberts Middle School, 881 Ridge Road, Pottstown, PA 19465. The collection site will open at 9:00AM and will close at 3:00PM sharp.  NO electronics or appliances will be accepted.  For more information about Household Hazardous Waste that will be accepted at this event please click here.
