Free Shredding Event

The Chester County Solid Waste Authority is sponsoring a free shredding event at the Lanchester Landfill on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 8:30AM to 11:30AM or until the truck is filled (whichever comes first). This is an opportunity to safely destroy and recycle documents that may contain legal information, account information, medical information or any other personal information that could lead to identity theft. The Lanchester Landfill is located on Route 322, two miles west of the intersection of Routes 10 and 322 in Honeybrook. For more information, please visit

Free Water Resource Webinars

The Penn State Cooperative Extension’s Water Webinar series provides educational programs on a variety of important water resource issues in our region.  The February webinar topic is “The Effect of Climate Change on Riverine Inputs to the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays” and it will be held on February 22, 2017 from 12:00PM to 1:00PM.  Everyone is welcome to participate in the live monthly Water Resource seminars but registration is required.  To register, see topics for other upcoming webinars or view previous webinars, please visit the Penn State Extension’s Water Resource Webinars page.

Meals on Wheels Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to deliver hot, nutritious lunches to the homebound in our community! Prepared meals are picked up by the volunteer at Manatawny Manor on weekdays at 11:15AM. A route has around 8-10 stops and takes approximately an hour and a half to complete. Scheduling is flexible – volunteers can deliver once a month or as many times as they are available. Toys for Tots Toy Collection

The South Coventry Township Office is a 2016 drop-off location for the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.  If you would like to donate a new, unwrapped toy to a child in need in our community, please drop it off at the Township Office during normal business hours. Last Day for Free Electronics Drop-off

Residents are reminded that December 1, 2016 is the last day that residents will be able to drop off TVs and electronics at the Lanchester Landfill for free. There is a three unit limit per vehicle (a complete computer system is considered one unit). All items must be intact and no disassembled items will be accepted. Residents must be able to unload their own items. Items must be put on appropriate pallet or in the labeled gaylord box. Appliances that are mostly metal should be disposed in the metals container for recycling.

Travel Restrictions on State Highways

There are several travel restrictions on state roads in Chester and Montgomery county this week due to various maintenance operations.  For a full list, please see the PennDOT news release.  In South Coventry, there will be lane restrictions for base repairs on Route 23 (Ridge Road) between Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) and Bertolet School Road on Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21.  These repairs are weather dependent and dates may change.

Spotted Lanternfly – Upcoming Meetings

A public meeting will be held on October 27, 2016 at 6:00PM at the Goodwill Fire Company located at 537 Chestnut Street, Bally PA for residents interested in learning more about the Spotted Lanternfly.  Representatives from the Penn State Extension, PA Department of Agriculture, United States Department of Agriculture and Kutztown University will provide information regarding eradication efforts and answer questions regarding the quarantine order.  The Spotted Lanternfly quarantine currently covers areas of Berks, Bucks, Chester, Lehigh and Montgomery Counties.

The PA Department of Agriculture is also seeking contractors to bid on tree removal, tree herbicide application and tree insecticide application.  For contractors interested submitting a bid, a contractor training session will be held on October 27, 2016 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at Goodwill Fire Company at 537 Chestnut Street, Bally PA.  There is no cost to attend but contractors are asked to register online.
